At a large online shopping mall in China, a store was found selling large amounts of toner cartridges of member companies of JMBIA. The subsequent investigation confirmed that the store was run by a group based in Gwangzhou that processed, stored, and sold toner cartridges that they copied several member companies of JMBIA. The Gwangzhou City Office of Public Security was requested to take action, and the offending group’s offices and warehouses were all successfully seized and searched. 6,669 counterfeit toner cartridges and 28,228 labels of 7 brands (Canon, Konica Minolta, Kyocera, Ricoh, Sharp, Fuji Xerox, Toshiba) were confiscated. 8 persons responsible for or involved in the counterfeiting were arrested. The People’s Court of Tiānhé District, Gwangzhou City, Guangdong Province sentenced each of these 8 persons to 10 months’ imprisonment and a fine of 5,000 yuan.
